Many summer camps that are near or adjacent to bodies of water offer canoeing as an activity, but few camps offer a true canoe camp. A canoe camp is a truly immersive experience where campers spend the first few days of camp learning or reviewing canoeing basics and safety, and then they set off like the first explorers, with nothing but their canoes, food and camping gear. Campers at a canoeing camp will face long days of canoeing, selecting campsites and foraging for firewood. Portages may need to be crossed and maps may need to be consulted. Canoeing camps are designed for the young explorer and will give your child memories to last a lifetime.
Levels of Expertise: Campers with any and all levels of experience are welcome, though due to the nature of these camps they're generally not recommended for children unless they're at least 9 or 10 years of age.
Equipment to Bring: Canoe camps will provide everything you need, but a good pair of hiking boots and your own backpack are recommended.
Weather Considerations: The rustic nature of these canoe camps means that campers will canoe and camp in wind, sun and rain, so consider this when packing as well.
